LUNETTES KOLLEKTION AND MICHAEL VAN DER HAM MIX IT UP WITH LONDON FASHION WEEK EYEWEAR COLLABORATION
Leading Berlin eyewear label Lunettes Kollektion and innovative women’s wear designer Michael van der Ham merged their talents for a quirky-chic mini-collection of sunglasses debuting on the runway during London Fashion Week. The shades were instantly dubbed ‘Accessory of the Day’ by fashion trade paper Women’s Wear Daily.
The 1940’s-inspired round frames created exclusively for van der Ham consist of layered opaque and translucent acetate with stripe and scallop decorative forms. “The mixing of textiles and mixing of cuts is always very important to me with clothes, and so I did the same with the glasses,” said Michael van der Ham. The thickness of the layered materials adds depth and texture, while playful colors lighten the mood.
The “Block and Scallop” collection consists of two models, each in different colorways with graphic details. The frames in burned orange, silver or navy and ivory pair with matching mirrored lenses. The sunglasses represent Lunettes Kollektion’s signature hybrid of vintage and contemporary design, and perfectly compliment the collaged feminine looks of the Dutch-born, London-based van der Ham’s designer’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection.
“I have always loved Lunettes Kollektion glasses,” said van der Ham. “I love their use of color, and the high level of quality.”
“As a fan of Michael van der Ham’s style, it was very exciting to be part of his new collection,” said Lunettes Kollektion’s Uta Geyer of the collaboration. “The experience was a thrill – it was great fun to work with him. Michael knows exactly what he wants, and so it was easy and uncomplicated for us to develop a shared stylistic vocabulary“.
