Byblos was founded in 1973 as part of the Italian brand Genny. From 1983, Byblos was an independent brand. The name Byblos goes back to the luxury hotel of the same name in Saint-Tropez,
which in turn owes its name to the Lebanese city of Byblos. Byblos had its heyday in the 1980s and early 90s.
Under the direction of British designers Keith Varty and Allen Cleaver, the brand was mentioned in the same breath as Issey Miyake, Comme des Garcons and Jean-Paul Gaultier.
